Tumblr publishes draft revision of its TOS to GitHub

Microblogging platform Tumblr published a draft revision to its terms and policies this week to GitHub, prior to officially enacting the updates on its site. On its blog, Tumblr states that it has been nearly two years since its policies have been updated, and subsequently have included an attribution policy, emphasis on credit for open-source projects, and overall "clean up" of its legal documentation to be more concise for public understanding.

Tumblr's drafted attribution policy requires that users give proper attribution to works, and include full links back to original sources, easily facilitated by "reflagging" as opposed to reposting content found on Tumblr. Hoarding, collecting, trading and selling Tumblr URLs is prohibited, as well as creating impersonations of individuals through Tumblr. Also included in the attribution policy is a statement regarding hateful content, which emphasizes communicating about the content as opposed to having Tumblr remove it. The launching of Tumblr's new terms and polices has yet to be officially enacted.
