Valve has announced
the latest update to its gaming service platform Steam
, which consists of a beta release of its new, in-home streaming component. Steam's in-home streaming, according to its site
, "will allow [users] to play a game on one computer when the game process is actually running on another computer elsewhere in [one's] home." Game audio and video is captured on the remote computer, and subsequently sent to the player's computer.
Steam's in-home streaming feature is currently in limited beta, with access requiring a beta invitation via email. The streaming option is currently aimed only at Windows PCs, with an option for OS X and Linux machines a work in progress.
Dash driving feedback app and hardware released, offers trip logs, vehicle diagnostics, GPS mapping
Techstars New York-backed startup, Dash
, has launched for use with Android devices -- including a combination of a hardware device and smartphone application. Dash offers real-time feedback on driving, trip logs, access to vehicle diagnostics, and mapping. The 'connected car' product involves an OBD device, purchasable from within its mobile application or Dash homepage; however Dash software is compatible with any Bluetooth-enabled OBD device.
Dash can track driving trips, document gas consumption, detect crashes and alert emergency services, understand vehicle warning messages and more. A central feature of Dash includes a focus around driving safety, with an 'in transit' mode that provides auditory alerts when a driving error occurs, such as braking too hard, and generates a driving score to share with friends. The Dash app can be downloaded for Android running devices from Google Play
, with an iOS version coming soon.
