Google has unveiled its long-rumored Google Glass units for prescription glasses wearers, in preparation for its expected launch later this year. The four sets of spectacles, part of the Google Glass Titanium Collection, replace the headband used by the normal Explorer Edition with traditional-looking frames, with Google optionally shipping them containing non-prescription lenses to give more style options to non-glasses wearers.

The search company is partnering with "preferred eye care professionals" for creating prescription lenses, reports The Verge, with healthcare provider VSP signed up to help train optometrists and to reimburse members for part of the cost of the $225 frames. Google is also offering two new styles of sunglasses that clip into place instead of needing Glass to be attached with screws. The Classic and Edge sunglasses are priced at $150 each.

The design of the frames seemingly appear to hide Glass a lot more than the standard headband, potentially making it more socially acceptable, though it does include some trade-offs. Glass is attached to the frames via screws, and removing Glass leaves the frame missing one stem and so unwearable as glasses alone, forcing prescription glasses wearers to carry a normal pair around for instances where Glass may be frowned upon, such as at a theater.
