Google has launched of Chrome apps for Android and iOS, which offers an early developer preview of a toolchain based on an open-source mobile development framework, Apache Cordova. Developers can wrap their Chrome app with a native application shell, enabling Google Play and Apple App Store distribution. Chrome-packaged apps are written in HTML, JavaScript and CSS, and launch outside the browser.

Today's update adds to the Chrome apps release last fall that allowed for working offline by default, and having an app act like native applications on its host operating system (of Windows, OS X, and Chrome OS). Now, Chrome apps function with mobile platforms as well. For more information, Google has uploaded its readme for mobile Chrome apps on GitHub.

SoundCloud has launched its new visually-focused version of its embeddable player today. Featuring an artist's artwork at the player's center, users now have access to a continuous listening function, where related tracks play during pausing and after finishing a playback. SoundCloud's Pro Unlimited version features its Spotlight function being displayed in the player during pause and after playback.

Yeah, tried porting a Google's Sample Calculator Chrome App over to iPhone and suffice to say the results were less than satisfactory. That one needs to stay in the oven longer.
