In an effort to "create a structure that will help growth in new businesses," computer and electronics manufacturer Lenovo
has revealed that it is splitting into four discrete business groups, effective April 1. This structure replaces the company's current design, which has two business groups -- Lenovo Business Group (including consumer PC and mobile), and Think Business Group consisting of commercial PCs and enterprise.
The four groups are the PC Business group including the Lenovo and Think brands, the Mobile Business Group encompassing smartphones and mobile devices, Enterprise including servers and storage, and Ecosystem and Cloud. Geographic sales organizations remain largely the same.
As part of this announcement, Liu Jun and Gerry Smith were promoted from Senior Vice President to Executive Vice President and are running Mobile Business and Enterprise, respectively. CFO Wong Wai Ming is also being promoted to Executive Vice President. Gianfranco Lanci, in charge of the PC business group, was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer -- he is said to be assuming additional responsibilities for Integrated Operations, Alliances.
