Amazon is still working on a smartphone, and will launch it within the next three to six months, claims an analyst. Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities believes the online retailer will include six cameras, reiterating previous rumors, with the main and front cameras for standard photography and video purposes being accompanied by four more for gesture control.

Kuo is claimed by BGR to be highly-accurate with his predictions, including those of Apple and Samsung devices and component suppliers. A document from Kuo to clients received by the report states Amazon will start stocking up on components in the second quarter, estimating components for between 700,000 and 1.2 million devices will be acquired, and 300,000 to 600,000 smartphones will be built at first.

"Amazon will have to provide users with a unique experience to differentiate its phone from other brands," advises Kuo, suggesting Amazon would accomplish this by "integrating the smartphone with its own services such as e-commerce." As far as demand, Kuo predicts shipments of up to 600,000 units in the second quarter of this year, and between 2 million and 3 million before the end of this year.

Specifications for the device seem to mirror those of earlier reports. It will apparently have a 4.7-inch display with a pixel density of between 300 and 320ppi, a main rear 13-megapixel Sony camera with secondary sensors from Primax, a battery between 2,000mAh and 2,400mAh in capacity, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor tying the components together. Bearing in mind the company's Kindle Fire tablet line, it is more than likely to ship with Amazon's own fork of Android.

If Amazon is indeed producing a smartphone, it could potentially launch alongside its rumored set-top box efforts. Recent rumors for it suggest it will resemble a HDMI dongle similar to the Chromecast, and could offer gaming with an accompanying controller.
