Online backup storage service IDrive has revamped its plans to offer more space, and a new separate sync service -- and to celebrate, it will give current and new users the same amount of sync space as they use for backups at no additional charge. The new service allows users to sync files in real time across all linked devices (on Macs, PCs or mobile devices) as well as their separate IDrive account. The sync feature can optionally be protected with private-key encryption if desired.

The company also offers users a way to avoid the long process of uploading large backups to its service with its IDrive Express, which will ship a USB hard drive to users (compatible with Linux as well as Mac or Windows computers) for free once a year to allow them to quickly back up some or all of the files. The user then ships the drive back, and the files are then available for restoration online without having to upload. Additional IDrive Express disk backups are available for $60, but most users will then use the new syncing service to keep their backups up-to-date.

The updating occurs automatically any time users modify data in their IDrive account using the mobile apps (available for iOS, Android and Windows Phone), desktop apps (for OS X and Windows) or a web browser as desired, and the cloud account are then updated as well, meaning users always have access to the latest versions of their files on whatever linked device they are using all linked devices as well as the cloud account are then updated as well, meaning users always have access to the latest versions of their files on whatever linked device they are using.

IDrive offers a free basic account that offers both 5GB of storage and 5GB of sync space, which can be grown through referrals, never expires and does not require a credit card. Paid plans now start at 300GB, with 1TB, 2TB and 4TB plans (with matching sync space) at $50, $150, $300 and $000 per year, respectively. Business plans scale from 100GB ($100 per year) up to 5TB ($3,000) with addition features. Business plans also qualify for the matching sync space. Existing and new users can activate the free sync service through their apps or the website.
