LG may be working on a Windows Phone device, according to a recent image leak. Claimed to be called the LG Uni8, the smartphone has been pictured in an image render running Windows Phone 8.1
, with the leak suggesting a possible return to the software platform by the smartphone manufacturer, years after it released the Windows Phone 7-based Optimus 7
The image from EVleaks
reveals little else about the device, though the site claims it is set for a release sometime in 2014. The render does appear to show a thin bezel, with the top space above the screen being barely thick enough to locate a camera, though the buttons at the bottom appear to be capacitive rather than software-based versions.
LG indicated in mid-2012
that it was not interested in Windows Phone due to a low market share. "The total unit[number] of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure," a spokesperson said at the time. Since then, Windows Phone has gradually increased its market share
, though it still pales in comparison to the share owned by Android and iOS, something which may have caused LG to change its mind.
