A new partner for the modular smartphone design has been acquired as the Phonebloks
project tries to expand its reach to supporting companies. Sennheiser
, best known for their contributions to audio equipment, has announced its partnership with Phonebloks
that will see the audio company contributing its audio experience to the initiative.
In an announcement
last week, Sennheiser stated that its knowledge will be used in areas of speech and audio transmission for support starting May 1. Though developers and companies are still being gathered for the initiative -- which has been embraced by companies such as Google, Xiaomi and ZTE -- Sennheiser is the first supporting company named by the project.
"Sennheiser has the necessary technical excellence, and also shares a corporate philosophy that places equal emphasis on sustainability," says Phoneblok designer Dave Hakkens. "Its products are distinguished by first-class quality, durability and they also provide options for replacing individual components. This sustainability ethos is an essential part of our company vision."
No details are given on the scope of Sennheiser's contributions to the project, but for now it will only be sharing its knowledge. No indication has been given if the company would manufacture audio modules for the project in the future.
