Divide, a company known for developing corporate software for managing Android devices, has announced that it has been purchased by Google. Divide, formerly known an Enterproid, allows management of personal Android devices in the bring your own device (BYOD) market by separating personal and business data and securing it. Google Ventures had been a previous investor in the company in its latest round of funding.

The good news for users is that it doesn't appear that the Divide app will be vanishing from either iTunes or Google Play any time soon, unlike the products of many other mobile teams that have been acquired in recent history. The developers will be joining Google's Android team, per a statement on their blog, but have said that the app will continue to function. "For existing customers, Divide will work as it always has," reads the post.

The reasoning behind the purchase is thought to be to give Google a boost it needs in the enterprise market -- which the company badly needs, as Android devices aren't generally seen as popular in business environments. By making Android devices more secure, the Divide team could help change this view on the back of the BYOD movement that has been increasingly embraced in businesses across the country. Divide's app makes use of containers on a personal device to allow IT departments to manage and encrypt business data, cutting down on the overhead cost of supply phones and plans to employees.

No information has been issued from Divide about the price of the purchase, or how they will work within Google. Divide was founded by former IT executives at Morgan Stanley, including Andrew Toy, Alexander Trewby and David Zhu.
