Microsoft has started to sell an Xbox One
bundle without Kinect through the Microsoft Store
, as the company continues to compete against its high-selling competitor, the Sony PlayStation 4. Announced last month
, the console is being sold as a secondary package without the motion and voice-based sensor bar priced at $400, representing a saving of $100 off the original bundle's list price.

The decision to remove the sensor bar brings the Xbox One down to the same price as the PlayStation 4. In sales results issued in April
, it was revealed Microsoft had sold more than five million Xbox One consoles since its launch, lagging behind Sony's device with 7 million sold globally. Both companies are set to make a number of announcements later today in separate E3 keynote addresses, and will likely reveal more up-to-date sales figures at that time.
Microsoft will continue to sell the main Kinect bundle alongside the new slimmed-down version. Those buying the Kinect-less version will have the opportunity to acquire the sensor bar, and in turn enable Kinect gameplay and voice commands, as a separate standalone accessory set to be sold this fall.
