In the first E3 keynote since the launch of the Xbox One
, Microsoft has opted to spend time promoting upcoming games for the console, instead of introducing new features, hardware, or accessories like it did last year
. The company showcased a number of titles for the console at the event, including releases from the Halo
, Assassin's Creed
, and Call of Duty
franchises, as it attempts to prove to the public it should buy the Xbox One instead of the PlayStation 4
First shown at the event was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
. Played on stage in brief, the game uses futuristic armor and weaponry, including robotic swarms, all played in a level set in a South Korean city. Microsoft revealed all downloadable content for the game will be released first on Xbox. Ubisoft showed Assassin's Creed: Unity
, the latest in the franchise set in renaissance period France, and introducing co-operative multiplayer with up to four assassins playing the same mission.
Halo Master Chief Collection
Possibly the most appreciated news, based on the reaction of the crowd heard on the stream, will be the release of the Halo Master Chief Collection
on November 11th. Confirming earlier rumors
, the four main releases of the Halo franchise will be collected onto one disc, updated in parts and completely unlocked from the start. The collection will also include the multiplayer beta for Halo 5 Guardians
, which will run from December until the game's release.
Other sequels shown at the event include Forza Horizon 2
, Dragon Age Inquisition
, Dance Central Spotlight
, Fable Legends
, and Rise of the Tomb Raider
. While strictly not a sequel, a trailer for a new Crackdown
game was shown.
Some new IP heading to the Xbox One was also introduced, with the most striking being Sunset Overdrive
. A cross between Dead Rising
and a skating game, it has players moving quickly throughout a city by grinding on rails and performing acrobatics, all while shooting various monster hordes. Evolve
, first surfacing a few weeks ago, has one player taking the role of a large and powerful monster, which has to survive against a team of four other players trying to kill them. Tom Clancy's The Division
saw a team of players working together as a party to take down enemies in a dystopian city-based firefight.
Microsoft did make some hardware announcements
last week, before E3. It started selling a version of the Xbox One without the Kinect
, revealed new apps heading to the console and the Xbox 360 this year, and also rolled out a software update for the Xbox One adding external drive support.
