Hi.

Is there any difference in stability/durability regarding "regular" external drives versus "compact" portable drives?

Thanks.

It's mostly a speed issue (portables typically have slower drives like those used in laptops). However, if you have a TiBook, there may be some serious issues with bus-powered FW drives...do a search on the PowerBook forum.

Thanks, Macola.

The reason i`m taking a portable FW drive into consideration is that i like the fact that it`s easy to remove it for safe storage and protection of it`s containment.

Which brings me to another issue...is it possible to password protect an external FW drive?

Thanks.

You could set privileges accordingly in OS X, but someone could simply boot into OS 9 and access the files. A better way would be to use something like LameSecure or some other security app.

Hi.

I`ve had some bad experiences in the past with this kind of software. They have all been "older" freeware applications though, so i guess i could give it another go...

Thanks, again, Macola

Tom.
