I had to take my rev. B TiBook in for repairs last week because the FireWire port stopped working all of a sudden. I finally figured out what happened: My Que! 24-10-40 FireWire CD-RW drive killed the port! I know this because the exact same thing just happened with the same drive on my father's Pismo.

Is this a common occurence with QPS drives, or any other brand? As I recall, they never gave me my $30 rebate from about 6 months ago, so they don't seem like the most responsive company... Does anyone have any experience dealing with them? Any information is welcome.

I have a QUE firewire CDRW and I have no problems with it.
The one thing that I remember is that apple has messed the firewire port on the tipowerbook. It doesn't have the circuitry (or whatever it is called) to protect the machine from electricity when you hot plug the firewire device. So if you have done a lot of hot plugging this would be the answer.I think it's fixed on the new powerbooks.
I do a lot of hot plugging on my iMac with the Que CDRW and haven't faced a problem so far.I have it for about 2 years.
Sorry if I'm not much of a help

I saw a thread about that before, and my understanding of that was that it only affected hotplugging of bus-powered devices (my CD-RW is, of course, not a bus-powered device). And besides, like I mentioned, this also happened to my father's Pismo, which supposedly doesn't have the faulty wiring of my TiBook.
