I just got it but I am having a few problems.
1. When I am hooked up via Firewire, I can not access or edit anything on the ipod from the computer. My older version lets me change things around along with playing the ipod directly through the computer. Now it is locked and will not allow me to do anything but update to mirror what is on my iTunes library. Is this something Apple changed???

It is a nice player otherwise. I don't like the displays though when you are hooked up to a computer. It either shows: OK to disconnect or DO NOT disconnect. I liked the older version that showed the Firewire icon better!

Oh well 20GB is awesome! I can hardly wait until iCal comes out! So I can use it a somewhat PDA.

Let me know if you know how to fix my problem. Thanks in advance!

I assume that means it's got the v1.2 of the firmware on it... The only thing between me and v1.2 is the blank space on Apple's software update servers now.

I kind of like that change anyway ... I'm always forgetting to "eject" my iPod...

is your iPod set to 'Sync" playlists, rather than manually managing playlists.

If "manual' is selected, you should be able to have your way with it....

Just a query about the new firmware for those of you that have one of the new iPods. In the iPod User Interface demo on the Apple page there is an option Alarms - On in the Settings menu. Do any of you know what this applies to and how it works?

I'd love to hear feedback on how the new solid-state scrollwheel works. Is it intuitive? (Though I guess you already had an iPod before...) Is it smooth? Is the clickity-click feedback enough, or do you wish it would spin?

The alarm I think is for iCal. As for the new wheel, it's awesome! I love it. One thing about the remote, you have to have it pluged it pretty hard to work. I had it plug in at first and thought I had a defective remote. Oh jfischetti thanks for the info, that worked!

I just got my 20GB iPod the other day and I love it. I played with iPods at Fry's and the Apple Store when the 5GB ones came out last year. I really did not like the wheel at all. It felt too funny to use. Actually the first thing I thought of was the Atari Breakout controller. It wasn't very comfortable for me to use. I've found that the solid state control is much more comfortable. It is as intuitive as the scroll wheel as it acts the same without the strange wheel sensation of the actual wheel.

And I take it v1.2 firmware is NOT included on the CD that comes with the new iPods? Or is it?

Thanks.

Practically speaking, you can't tell the scroll wheel isn't moving. It feels identical to the original scroll wheel.
