When I plug my iPod in and double click on it from the desktop it seems to have a few files preinstalled on it (iTunes to name one). If I were to delete these files and folders, would my iPod work properly?

Thanks in advance.

If there's anything on the iPod that would cause problems upon deletion, it's hidden from view. You won't be able to erase anything necessary unless you use some utility to view those hidden files and intentionally try to screw things up.
