Hi! A friend of mine is very interested in getting an ipod. The only problem is his laptop doesn't have built-in firewire. Would it work if he gets a 3rd party pc card adaptor (like the ratoc one). Also does anyone know whether a first generation ipod will work for him. The reason I am asking is he might buy my old 5 gig and I will get the new 10 gig window version (so that he can take teh window software). TIA.

What I know. Apple is selling PC Card as an option when you buy the iPod for $80. Apple has said you can convert the Windows iPod to a Mac iPod, and has instructions on how to do this, however, Apple doesn't mention or say how to go the other way. All firewire cards that are Windoze me, 2000, or XP certified will work according to Apple. You'll have to search for the conversion thing, it's something I read and don't need, you might start at www.ipodlounge.com They have forums there too, lots of them all relating to the iPod with an Admin who's pretty active in them.
