Hello,
Im thinking of replaceing my older Yamaha CD-RW with the CRW2200FXZ firewire model. there is a &50 rebate and it brings the price down to $99.00 + $5.00 shipping at J&R.

but will this model work (burn) in the background? with Toast or iTunes on OS 9 or OS X? does anybody know?

it seems like a good bargain, but Id like to get 'background burn' if possible. Fourmac has afaster drive (24x) but its $70 more. for only 4x speed inprovement ( 20 v 24)

thanks rotuts

I have the yamaha 16x10x40x firewire and in OSX it burns nicely in the background with toast, discribe, disc copy, and in the finder - basically everything I've tried it with. I don't burn CD's from iTunes so I don't know about that.

Disc Burner, iTunes and Toast 5 (both lite and Titanium) burn in the background, all on both OS 9 and OS X. The only caveat is that your particular drive may not be supported (without a hack) on iTunes on OS 9. The CRW2200 drives with firmware 1.02 are supported only with iTunes on OS X; drives with firmware 1.0D work on OS 9 as well. (Since the firmware version is such a tiny difference, you should be able to easily hack the Yamaha support file to make it work on OS 9.)
