My blue 17" apple cinema display (the crt that came out with the b&w g3) has developed a wierd shaking thing. Literally the picture kinda shakes, like there's interference. But I can't figure it out. I had some occasionaly wierdness with my old b&w g3, now, it's continuous with my new G4. Any ideas? It happens at any resolution. It's pretty bad, almost unusable.

Will this be the excuse I need to get a 17" flat panel?

Sounds like the deflection board in that monitor is starting to fail.

Should take it to fix

But there is an article in Apple's apple care database regarding the 'pop-click' thing.

Go to Apple site to find that article ( search it in the monitor support with keyword 'pop' or something like that) and write down the article number

Then phone Apple support and give out the article number and you should be able to have your monitor fixed for free

Cool, thanks. I'll check it out.

After reading the thread and article over there, i've had the apparently famous dim-pop-zoom happen a few times over the last six months or so. I'll be calling apple tomorrow to see if they'll cover it. It seems like they will, based on other people's experiences.

Also try plugging it into other electrical outlets.

I've had this happened with a monitor of mine before. Of course it's an IBM monitor from an Aptiva computer...if that says anything or not.

i bought an open box 17" CRT studio display (the last model like that they made) that had problems similar to what youre describing.

the screen would wobble in and out, eventually the screen wobbled out so wide i couldnt bring it back in. i sent it in to apple, then fixed it and sent it back. if its still under warranty you probably have a good chance of getting it fixed. i think it had something to do with some sort of power regulation or something.
