I just turned over my dell to my family, they are going to use that as their primary machine. Now I am apparently stuck with the ibook and I can not print to the printer that is conected to the pc.

Therefore, I need two recomendations, one for a printer (rendezvous would be nice) that will connect directly to the network so I could print via airport (which I already have installed).

And another for the best speakers around.

For the speakers I was looking at the soundsticks....

And the printer I was looking at the z65n from Lexmark.

Anyone know one that would beat those?

The SoundSticks are awsome but Lexmark stinks. Epson and HP are MUCH better.

Why exactly do lexmark printers suck? A comment such as "they suck" is of no use for me. I like the aforementioned model because its a network printer that I can get for under 200 bucks.

All the Lexmarks I have are loud and Junky. They break right out of the box and the print quality is very poor compared to any Epson or HP.

Depends on how much you care about asthetics. If not at all (ie me), and wants performance more than anything, get Cambridge's Microworks. Compared to my friend's soundsticks + iSub combo, these are MUCH better. If you are Only looking for speakers and no subwoofer, then I guess go with the sticks...still though, I think having 4 identical drivers is a stoopid idea!

Yeah, HP printers. Other thant he Canon 9000/8000 series for photo-printing, I haven't heard of any ink-jet that's worth the switch from HP...(I've tried other cannons, lexmarks, epsons before...bad idea)
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

One of the new HP Deskjets such as the DJ5550 or the new Photosmart printers would work just fine (PS 7550, 7350, 7150). All of these printers print at 4800 X 1200 on photo paper and are capable of using six or four color ink system.

Immortal K-Mart Employee thank you for clearing that up.

Currently I have a Canon 900 or something like that. But since windows dropped support for appletalk I can not print to that printer since it is conected to a windows pc.

I had on my dell some altec lansing thx certified speakers. They were OK but I was expecting something better.

Any model in particular I should be looking for?

And the printer I want it to be conected directly to the network. That way I can take advantage of printing from wherever I want.

Thanks

Remember you can get any old USB printer and share it on the network with 10.2's USB printer sharing. It is probibly a better idea.

What type of printing you want to do?

The only thing I want to do is print from this darn thing.....

I am really not interested in sharing the new printer, I want to be able to be lying in bed(as I am doing right now) and be able to print for the cheapest price available.

Can't really tell you why, or offer you too much info but I will say that I worked at a highschool tech department this summer and our Tech Director who heavily researches every purchase (like you would not believe!) only buys lexmarks when it comes to network printers. I have never had any trouble with these printers and actually might have bought one myself if it wasn't for epson rebates. However the type of printers we use are more along the lines of the mono laser printers which are high priced and used for high speed and high demand... he does not by lexmark for single computer printers... not sure on why that is but he sticks with hp... just remember all these people saying "lexmark sucks" may have just bought 1 printer that worked fine and eventually crapped out. My HP just died after 3 years, it worked well enough before but now its dead and makes me want to say "HP sucks"... but maybe it doesn't
probably not much help but good luck
ipod why have you forsaken me?!?!?!

If you are talking about a work-horse mono-laser, it's gotta be the HP 4xx0N series...they are more standard than any other printers for a medium-sized office. (50 or below i guess)
I also have a Lexmark color-laser alongside the HP4100N, and can't say I'm too impressed/thrilled 'bout it. The old Tektronix color lazer was better IMHO, except it crapped out after 3 years oh well...

Back to inkjets...in terms of graphic printing, Canon 900 was the benchmark of last generation of photo-printers. Canon 9000 is the benchmark of the current generation of photo-printers.
As for the best all-around ones, HP is still best. But if you are on a budget, Lexmark is worth considering.

I found a solution for my printing problems. I just ordered a Linksys EtherFast Wireless-Ready USB PrintServer that will connect to my canon printer. I think its the 900 something, its brand new just bought it for my pc so now I do not have to buy another printer for my ibook which is nice and I got the print server for under 80 bucks.

I also ordered the soundsticks, they seem to get pretty good reviews everywhere and for listening to less than perfect mp3s I think they will be perfect.

Thanks guys.

Note: also ordered Jaguar (wohooooo) and a sony Micro Vault (they look pretty cool)
