I've succesfully synced my Palm IIIxe with Desktop 4.0 under OS X before. But since I updated to the latest drivers for my Keyspan PDA (serial-to-USB) adapter, I get an error when syncing.

1. I press the sync button on the cradles.
2. HotSync starts up properly.
3. While the Palm is "identifying user" I get an error message on the Mac: "Unexpected Error. [22]". The HotSync Panel shows "Establishing Connection" at that time.
4. The HotSync fails.

Has anybody seen this problem? How do I solve it?

I don't have an answer but I have a similar set up as you. I have a Palm Vx, Keyspan USB adaptor (ver. 1.3 Driver) OS X 10.2, Palm 4.0 for OSX, and the Entourage Conduit and I can't get the Sync Manager to know the Palm is there. Not sure where I'm going wrong, whether it's 10.2, the Conduit, or the Keyspan Driver. I can't even get the Palm to sync to the Palm Desktop, so I assume I have the driver configured wrong or something, who knows. I gave up after about an hour of messing with it. I'm too damn busy, but mean while I can't sync my data. Crap.

From a keyspan representative:

"Hi Ryan,

We are on the verge of releasing a new driver for both 10.2 and 10.1.x.

Al though the existing v1.3 software will work, we don't recommend that you
install the current version due to odd issues regarding its installer.

'Officially', I expect the new driver to be out before the official release
of Jaguar on the 24th. 'Unofficially', I would expect the new driver late
tonight.

We will have info on the main page as soon as the drivers are released.

Jose Arellano
Keyspan"

This may resolve your problem, and Mine!

Thanks for the heads-up, Loert. Let's hope the new drivers solve our problems. I have a feeling that my problem has to do with identifying the user, though, because I ran into the Error 22 as well when I first installed Palm Desktop in X. I had to install Classic Desktop, sync in OS 9, the install X Desktop over Classic desktop, and then it worked. I really have no clue what's happening this time.

Have you tried to use Apple System Profiler to see if your Mac recognizes the Keyspan adapter? Did you make sure that Hotsync is checked in your Login Items? For some reason, it always seems to get unchecked when I unplug the Keyspan adapter (when the whole thing still worked).

Can't wait to get my copy of Jaguar in the mail anyway. Let's hope Apple can really get it to me by Saturday. Hope it won't break too many things.

I upgraded to Jaguar on Thursday. (Got my package from Apple early. Yay!) I formatted my HDD and erased all traces of Palm and Keyspan software in the process. Today, I installed Keyspan's latest driver (1.4b9 Beta Driver) and re-installed Palm Desktop 4.0. After a restart, HotSync works again.

Now if only Palm Desktop could sync with Apple's Address Book app! It would be even nicer if Apple's Address Book, iCal and iSync could replace Palm Desktop completely. We'll see...

Kudos to Keyspan!
