I've had a 10 GB iPod for about 6 months, and I love it. It works great, havent had any real problems. But over the last month - month and 1/2 i have noticed my pod's battery life seem to get shorter. I use it at work for from about 10 - 4. I use to be able to listen all day (starting with a full charge) and only go down to 3 power bars. now i have to rechage almost every day.
Is this a common problem (if you can really call it a "problem"), and if so is there anything i can do about it? Replace the battery (somehow)?

Well it's rated at 10 hours... so it's likely that before the indicator was wrong if it said 3 bars after 6 hours.
But yes, battery life will decline. I don't know how many charge cycles you can get... but it's probably in the 500 to 1000 range before it gets *really* short.
Others have also noted reduced battery life after putting the iPod update 2 software on there (1.2?). A suggestion was to turn off the alarm (which was "on" by default on my iPod). This probably won't affect things in your case but you may wanna check if you did update your iPod.

Conversly, after two hours of use on a full overnight charge, my new 20GB 'pod is down to 1 of 4 bars. Never had that problem on my original 5GB unit.
Perhaps the larger HD eats more juice? Or the newer settings in 1.2 eat more juice? Or...???

It seems that the alarm feature of 1.2 reduces the battery charge quite a bit.
Take a look at this thread over at the iPodlounge forums:

turn off the alarm feature is not enough for me. You need to do a force restart by pressing menu and play button together. After that, your clock will get reset. Don't adjust your clock if you want to have 10 hour battery of continuing music. It seems to me that 1.2 software updater definitely has bugs in it although some people claim it works fine for them.

Thanks for the tip on the forced restart.
