Hello, I'm new here and new to mac in general. Hope I don't come across as a total idiot
I am due to get my 10.2 disks very very soon now and am planning on wiping the hard disk on my iBook and starting fresh. I currently have the some 300 or so songs in my MP3 collection that are synchronized to my ipod. My question is that if I wipe and reinstall, will I necessarily lose the mp3's from my ipod as well, or will it let me restore the ownership rights that I once had on the machine?

Thanks in advance for any assistance that may be provided.

-Berz

just to be shue go over to versiontracker.com and down load a small app that will Open up the hidden files so you can access the MP3, or you can just put them all in a folder and shove them on the ipod in the fire wire mode.

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

If you have your iPod set to AutoSynch, it will definitely wipe all the songs off your iPod when you plug it in. You'll definitely want to find a way to back up your songs somewhere before try to synch your your iPod, probably the best way being something like Tinkertool (assuming you're in OS X) that will let you view hidden files, like G4ME's suggestion. I think (I'm not a Mac now so I can't check) that iTunes 3 will consolidate your music into the appropriate folders, organized by Artist and Album, so you can copy the songs directly from your iPod and then have iTunes restore the organization of the songs (Your songs on your iPod will be organized differently than on your Mac).
