Hello,
Ill be getting a g4 dual 1mz soon at an apple store. Id very much like to get a 23" apple cinema display, but had a very bad experience with a 22" display I got for my father last year that dragged on for a full year.

each apple person tells me a differnt story re; dead pixels. some day 17 together and 40 elseware is their standard, some say less. some say that 'applecare' has a document detailing what they will fix, but no-one will produce it.

all the displays at three apple stores Ive been to have NO dead pixels.

is apple really making a $3,500 (-500 rebate) purchase a crap shoot? IE youll take what we give you?

any thoughts? ideas? experiences?

is it too much to expect for that kind of money getting what they are displying? (no pun there0 any help or experience appreciated. rotut

If you buy from an Apple store, just ask them to turn it on and check for dead pixels before you give them any money. Also doesn't Apple have a satisfaction guarantee where you can send it back for a refund within a certain number of days?

I just got a 22" Cinema display and I've got 4 dead pixels, 2 in the center, and two about 4 inches around the two. Actually, they're not quite dead, they're stuck blue. I've tried massaging them to no avail. If it is really a major concern for you, go buy it from a place like either CompUSA or an Apple Store. You can buy it, and exchange if it there are any dead pixels.
Am I still here?

For those kind or prices, I would expect nothing less than perfection.

I was forutunate my 22" Cinema had NO dead pixels when I bought it direct from Apple 2 years ago. But then, I didn't know about the dead pixel problems.

Knowing what I do now, I would buy it from an Apple store or CompUSA and reject any units that do not perform as they should.

Yeah, yeah, manufacturing a display that size and getting that kind of quality control is next to impossible. BUT THAT IS WHY I PAY PREMIUM PRICES.

I'm planning on getting a 23" HD in the future, but no way would I accept a less than perfect screen.

(rant off)

hey, what do you think happens to all the displays that have 40+ dead pixels? I wouldn't think they could be fixed easily... do they pass them out to interns? does steve use them as targets for his fabled box of newtons under his desk? do you think if I ask for one he would give it to me?

just a ponder.

Buy a big-ol CRT monitor!

I can't believe that for the price of those large flat screens that you would ever have to deal with dead pixels. Just silly!

One of the reasons for high prices of LCD panels is that one's that don't make the "yield" have to be thrown away.

Still a good high resolution DVI panel has a clarity that cannot be reached by any CRT monitor. Perfect convergence rocks!
