Hello,
I need to find a reasonably priced external hard drive for my old 333mhz iMac. I'm thinking somewhere around 15-20gb and it needs to be USB compatible, anyone got any ideas? All the deals I see are either for Firewire or internal drives. Thanks.

usb hard drive is going to be unbearably slooooooooooow. you'll pull out your hair from frustration before it finishes copying even a tiny 20 MB file.
your imac doesn't have firewire?

I would recommend that you look into getting a USB/Firewire drive, when you finally upgrade you will want the firewire. With that comment you might recall that USB 2.0 is backwards compatible with USB. I looked around and you might what to start at www.harddrives.com there where no prices, but the drive looked good. Good luck.

I, too, am somewhat interested in a USB drive, so I can transfer files between home and school (as well as use IRC and AIM on the lab comps ). I only need a gig or two, and don't wanna blow a crudload of money on it. The girl next to me right now has a 3 gig that she says she paid less than 80 bucks for, but I can't find anything sub-200!! Also, would such a thing survive life in my backpack??? Thanks guys!

The short shall inherit the earth. Just you wait. You won't see us coming. We'll pop out from under tables, beds, and closets in hordes. So you're tall, huh? You won't be so tall when I chew off your ankles. Mofo

I'm in the same boat with my old Blueberry iMac 333MHz. I went for the Lacie PocketDrive USB and FireWire combined, so I can use to backup my iMac, transfer files to/from my work PC, and to transfer files to my new (when I eventually get it) 17" iMac using FireWire. Best of both worlds. It's a little pricey, but in my circumstances I think definately worth it.
