I've got a 20GB iPod and a Lombard Powerbook. Since it doesn't have built in Firewire I bought myself an OrangeLink cardbus card. My iPod works just fine with Windows using xPlay and a VIA based FW PCI card. I've having problems however mounting the iPod in OS9. The FW card works just fine, I plug it in and it shows up on the desktop and all is well. However when I plug my iPod into it I have to wait forever for the thing to mount and load up iTunes. I've tried everything I can think of. I've turned the iPod off before plugging it in, I've turned it on and left it on the main menu. I've opened iTunes before plugging the iPod in. There's probably a few dozen other things I've tried as well. Eventually it will mount or will mount if I restart the system but that gets tedious.

Under OSX I haven't had much of a problem, I plug in the FW card and then the iPod and it mounts pretty quickly. Being that I do have a Lombard and not a brand new TiBook or even a relatively fast Pismo OSX does not run so speedily and I'm much happier running OS9 most of the time. Is this a common problem I haven't read about or something with either 9 or my particular FW card? Do I have to deal with it or is there a fix available for me?

1. How is you iPod formatted?
2. Do you have all the extensions installed which are needed for your iPod and firewire card?

The iPod is HFS+ formatted and I have all the iPod and FW device extensions installed and enabled.
