I have a 10GB iPod that I got recently. Everything was fine with it until I tried to plug it into an HP PC. I assumed that since the PC (Win XP) had the full version of musicmatch that my ipod would show up. It didn't. In fact nothing happened except for a 'don;t disconnect' thing on the ipod. I waited 5 min, and then I just unplugged the thing anyway. It seemed ok, but the next day as I was listening to music it froze up. The sound stopped and none of the buttons worked. It started to get really, really hot and evetually shut off. I plugged it into my Mac and it seemed ok again. This happened 2 more times, on different songs. I tried repeating the issue thinking that maybe there were some corrupt MP3s, but it seems to happen no matter what the song. The amount of time it takes to do this also varies. What's going on here?

I almost forgot: after the first time it did it I used the iPod software utility (1.2) to do a "hard" reset. I then used iTunes to re-copy the music over.

Getting "really hot" is a bad thing. Since you've done a software reset, short of there being a hardware failure, reset the power mangement. Pull the back off the 'Pod and unplug the battery. Wait a minute or so, then plug it back in and plug into your Mac. Another thought - when you unplugged from the XP box, it's feasible that it screwed up your HD's boot info. If resetting the battery management doesn't work, try erasing the drive with Drive Utility(Jagwire) and install rev 1.1 instead of 1.2 - it's easier on the battery.

Will this void the warranty? I'd rather just have Appple fix it for me if this is the case...
