Based on comments in various forums and my experience with Harman Kardon speakers, I am concerned that the HK SoundSticks are overpriced for value.

Any experience with alternatives such as Bose MediaMates or Yamaha YST-MS50 3 piece?

I'm a big fan of Monsoon Planar speakers.

Go to CompUSA and listen to some music on a pair: smooth, natural, spacious.

MH-502's can be had for $99

I'm going to tack my question on here so we don't have to have two threads.

I'm looking for bang for the buck.

60 bucks for an iSub to add to my pro speakers

or

200 (i think thats the price) bucks for soundstix and an iSub.

I'm not a music buff, i just need a little more base than the pro speakers provide by themselves. i also want something that matches my imac. What do you all think?

I have the Monsoon MM 700, smokin setup including 2 planar speakers and a 40 watt sub. I paid $150 a few years ago but a friend of mine just purchased this same set at Wal-Mart for $69.

Having previously owned an iSub, I would say that it does not compare to the Monsoon setup.

Just my opinion.

Do yourself a favor and go listen to some of the MH-502 speakers. They're planar-magnetic and cone hybrids. I owned a set of the MM-700s which I thought were great, and I think these new MH-502s are even better.

I'm a huge fan of planar drivers. I have a pair of Martin Logans also, and these MH-502s can best be described as mini-MLs (though the technology is a bit different).

Thanks for the tip Turbo. While not in the market for new speakers, I will make it a point to audition the MH 502s. I am also a high end audio running a set of Carver Platinums at the moment.

I'd go for Monsoon's new PM-7 or PM-9. They seem to match the powermac's coloring pretty well.

I bought the monsoon mm-1000's a few years back and they ROCK - don't know much about monsoons current lineup - but their speakers are the ultimate computer setup - have not heard or seen anything that comes close.

Klipch ProMedia 5.1 + DD5.1.

OK, so if $500 is too much, get the ProMedia 2.1s.
