Ok, so I am looking for a webcam/digital camera and I find this webcam . You have to scroll down a bit to the Creative section. The product I ordered was the PC-CAM 550 (part #492640). So i get the camera today...and try to hook it up to my machine (Dual gig DDR with 10.2). It shows up under Apple System Profiler as it shouldm but iphoto doesn't recognize a camera. So I call macmall tech support and they (in there infamous wisdom) forward me to Creative tech support without even telling me they were doing so - of course after being on hold for 30 minutes. The creative guy tells me that the PCCAM 550 doesn't have support for the mac. So I call back macmall to return this thing and they say they won't pay for shipping. Excuse me, but on your website it says the platforms supported is PC and MAC. This product doesn't work on a mac. Then the sales guy tries to tell me that it does work on the mac!!!

Trying to keep my cool...it's not this guys fault, so I calmly tell him that i was on the phone with creative tech support and they said this product does not work with a mac. Then the guy says it does work for a mac!!! What!!! Did you hear what I just said?!?! Then he tells me to call the manufacturer since they said it is compatable with a mac. I (now getting aggravated) say Creative IS the manufacturer.

I don't give a rat's a$$ if (no idea if this is the case but hypothetically) creative f'ed up and told them the wrong thing. They should be the ones recouping from Creative. It is not my problem that one or both of these vendors f'ed up!!!

end rant

I stopped buying anything from MacMall/PCMall a couple of years ago. Long story short, they pulled a bait and switch on me, and they still owe me money...many calls, e-mails, and letters to progressively higher levels of management did nothing. I ended up filing a complaint with the BBB, but I'm not sure that did any good, either. So my most effective, and personally satisfying solution was to stop buying from them, and convince several companies at which I had contacts to do the same.

it is false advertising, but I always research what I am buying before I buy it so Macmall is buyer beware.

I also decided to stop buying from them, but Mall/Zone/Warehouse all tend to be so bad that it is tough to choose the least of the evils.

After I stopped buying from MacMall, I switched to MacConnection. No complaints at all for over 2 years now, and their service is definitely a notch above the rest.

Next time threaten a small claims suit. This type of situation happened to me with Dell. After 3 months of phone tag with Dull"care" I finally threatened them with a small claims suit. One day before I told them I would file (3 days after I told them after they told me to wait another 30 days for a refund), a refund order finally appeared in my account. They sent me a refund reciept. Now I just have to wait to see if they follow through by reversing the charge on my credit card.
