New 20GB 'pod replaces my old 5GB unit.
I've found the remote to be problematic. I use Sony Fontopia earbuds, not the stock Apple buds.
Remote switch to green, to red, whatever...it doesn't work. Does it only work with the stock Apple buds? Suggestions are most welcome!
Thanks.

The earbuds should have absolutely no effect on the operation of your remote. I would suspect one of 2 things:
1. You might not have pushed the plug of the remote "all of the way" into your iPod. or
2. Your remote is broken.
If you settle on problem 2, then call Apple about a warranty replacement.
Good luck,
Chris

FWIW, I've used my remote with 2 different types of non-Apple 'phones and had no problems.

I received my remote and case last week--I ordered them in the beginning of August.
My remote didn't work initially, either (much to my chagrin); however, I discovered that I hadn't fully seated the remote's jack into the iPod. You really need to shove it in--making sure the jack's silver collar is connecting--I can hear an audible click when it's done right.
The only issue I have in using the remote + headphones is that there's about 65 inches (165 cm) of cable when using both. Frankly, I'm not that tall. I wish the earpods had a short cable with an extension included for those who wish not to use the remote.
The new earbuds are a bit smaller and more comfortable, but it seems that the sponge covers are the same size as the old: they slip off too easily. I just took 'em off, period.
Personally, I like the Apple case. While it doesn't have a cutout for the scroll wheel, I don't miss it since I use the remote (granted, I rarely use playlists--I just shuffle through all my songs). The iPod fits nice and snuggly, and the clip seems both tough and grippy enough. It's probably not the best value, but it suits my needs.

i'll echo the above post. I got my 10gb and was annoyed that the remote didn't seem to work. But you really have to push it in, and it will make a click when it's all the way in.

I don't have to push like a madman to insert the remote in the iPod, I just gently insert it and twist ever so slightly, and it fits in perfectly with no effort.
