hey all - macworld reviewed a bunch of laser printers this month, one of which was the minolta 3100 (believe that was the number)

i saw a minolta 2200 at Staples for $799 after rebate ... it's supposedly not supported on the mac, but it says in the c | net tech specs that it's an HP machine inside ...

anyone have any experience with these machines?

It's cheap for a reason. And have a look at the price of the 4 replacement toners. What do you plan on printing with it? An inkjet will print better photos. About the only thing this is suitable for is colour business reports with color pie charts etc.

i'm looking to print a small run of a few hundred books

no photos, just very low-rez, blocky photoshop drawings with flat colors

Black toner is about $80, each of the colours is around $135.

For a few hundred copies, it may be more cost effective to get it printed on an offset printer. The quality will also be better. Check what your local print shop quotes you.
