I was wondering if there is any reason I can't take my LaCie external 16x burner and swap out the guts with a 48X IDE CD-RW and still have the thing work.

Opinions? Ideas?

ha ha i just did the exact same thing you are thinking about doing, the nonly thing is frive compatability, head on over to [url]xlr8yourmac.com[/umr] and look through their data base and see which ones work, i went with a nice 40X12X48 Sony, I couldn't find the 48X sony at my local Best Buy.

After you chose a that sony drive you need to change the OSX 10.2 (it will only work in 10.2) driver by downloading their driver in the FAQ CDROM section should be near the top.

As for the drive it self it needs to be set as master and just pop it in and you should be all set
