Hi,

Though at this moment it is mostly unused, the promise of iSync has gotten me motivated enough to try and find a USB cable for my Palm Vx.

However, sites like Amazon lists horror stories from users about most cables (Palm and Belkin).

Which cable should work fine with a slick oldskool Vx? I'm using a PB 667 with 10.2.

I use a KeySpan PDA adaptor to sync my Palm Vx under 10.2.

And my father uses the Palm-branded USB adaptor designed for the purpose -- also in 10.2.

Neither of us have problems, but I had to install the latest KeySpan drivers (look on VersionTracker).

Good luck!

I can also recommend the KeySpan PDA adaptor (but avoid using it under OS 9).

I have not had any luck with the palm brand usb to serial adapter. I cannot hold a connection for more than a few seconds. I advise against it. Try the keyspan, there are several reports of it working. Once again, Id have to recomend the stealth serial port.

I bought a second hand Palm adaptor off of eBay for $10. I installed the Palm Desktop and Hotsync software from their website, and it all works great for me.

I've had success with both the Keyspan 28-X dual serial adapter (connected to a Palm MacSerial adapter) as well as the Palm serial-to-USB adapter with my Powerbook and my old Clamshell iBook (only with the Keyspan adapter). The only difference I've seen is that the Palm adapter does not require additional drivers (a plus in my book), but is more finnicky about its connection... i.e. I wasn't able to use it with one hub but I can with another, even though Palm advises against using its adapter with a hub. The bonus with the Palm adapter is you can find it for cheap on eBay... I picked one up for under $15 shipped!

I really don't know what it is. But here is what I do KNOW...

1 - on my g4/400 my palm adapter I got fails with my Vx.

2- on my firend TiBook 500 his palm adapter works great with his Vx.

Same OS on both sides. 4.1 and Jag.

I suspect a batch of Palm USB to serial adapters are bad, but its hard to tell. I might try to buy one at a computer store and see if it works better than the one I have.

I am now syncing with the Stealth serial port and it is slow as a dog....

Out of interest what speed am I getting through the adaptor from my Vx to my Mac? It does seem really slow. Especially if you try Documents to Go.

I bought one of those cables last week and it wiped out the data on my Vx and after trying repeatedly, the cable does not work.
