Is it possible, I ask myself (and everyone), to use the iPod as a storage repository from which iTunes can play MP3s.

I ask because I have a 20GB iPod syncing with a G4 iMac and I'd like to be able to listen to the songs using the new iBook I'm gonna buy this weekend.

I'm not going to sync to the iBook as obviously the HD doesn't have the capacity - I was merely wondering if I can use it as a hard disk with a second (remote) copy of iTunes?

To elaborate just a little: There are utilities on VersionTracker that will allow iTunes to access your MP3 library on your iPod.

I'd imagine that you'll have to be sure to configure iTunes so that it does not change the file stucture of the iPod's library, or else, the iPod will not read them properly. Also, you'll have to make sure iTunes doesn't copy the files to your iBook, which it does by default (I believe) when it opens a new file.

Cheers for the help guys. Here's some "I've now done it" experience.

Bought the iBook.

Plugged in the iPod.

Fired up iTunes.

Selected Manual manipulation of playlists.

Was able to use the iPod as a library from within iTunes. Admittedly I may not be able to mess with the playlists but that's what I use the iMac for!

God love the Mac.
