What is it with name brand Firewire enclosures? It seems with name brand stuff, people are always mentioning that brand A/brand X Firewire drive is broken/reborn with new iterations of OS X.

However, I haven't noticed the same complaints with people using the more common name brand drives with generic noname brand enclosures.

I've got 4 different firewire drives. These include an IBM 75GXP hard drive, a Panasonic LF-D311 DVD burner, a Teac 524E CD-RW, and a Toshiba M1612 DVD-ROM, all in noname brand firewire enclosures and all work fine. In fact all the firewire enclosures are from different manufacturers and I can play musical chairs with the drives and enclosures, and OS X doesn't seem to care.

I wonder what it is with the name brand drives. Wonkiness with their custom firmwares maybe?
