I only have an iBook, so I'm without a serial port. But I can't use my ethernet port to connect to my Newton 2100 until I've put the NIE on it, apparently via serial. If I buy a serial to USB adapter, would I need to install a driver on the Newton to make that work, or is this the way to go to get started?

you dont need a driver on the newton to use a usb-serial adaptor, as the adaptor is only a device on the ibook.

since you really only have to install nie once, just go find a friend with a legacy mac and install it via serial.

or if noone is around, you can use a usb-serial adaptor as you said, for your ibook.

I'm not really interested in surfing the internet on my Newton, just getting software onto it...since this is possible just via the serial, it occurs to me...can I do this in OS X or do I need OS 9?
