Anyone have any success with a JetDirect regardless of printer type?
You should be able to drive the printer via jet direct using cups and gimp print. Before you start, you should download the gimp print driver package from
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
Install the package and proceed. Go to your browser and enter
http://127.0.0.1:631/ Click administration, Click add printer, Enter a name (location and desc. are optional) and click continue, select appsocket/hp jetdirect from the dropdown and click continue, now enter the ip of your jet direct (ex: socket://x.x.x.x:9100) with the x.x.x.x being your ip and the 9100 is the default port on jetdirect so you should be fine with leaving it "as is". So finish entering your socket info and click continue, select hp from the list box and click continue, select your model from the list box and click continue and your printer is added, you can fine tune your settings from the admin page, when you install it in cups, it is automatically installed in the print center. Oh and make sure tcp/ip is enabled on your jet direct. You don't need appletalk using this method. If I missed something, you'll have to fogive me as it's 3am and I'm trying to figure out why I'm still up.
