Hi geniuses

I just got the newest LaCie FireWire CDRW 48X burner. It seems to work very well, but disks made on the LaCie either won't mount in my internal CD/DVD drive, or they take 45 seconds to mount, and then appear to be corrupted. The same disks mount fine from the LaCie, working perfectly. In fact, audio disks play well on my home stereo.

The LaCie is using a Lite-On mechanism. My system is a G4 450 Cube, OS 10.1.5, 832 RAM. Using Toast 5.1.4.

Any ideas?

try it from os 9. if it does something similar, then it will look more like a hardware issue. if not, then it will seem like an OS X issue.

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, the same happens in OS 9.x. I previously used a Formac CDRW with a Teac mechanism, and had no problem mounting those disk in OS 9 or OS X.
It is a "hardware problem," but is the problem the Cube's internal drive, that has functioned perfectly for over a year with hundreds of CDs, or the LaCie, which clearly burns CDs in an altered Format? This is the argument I"m having with LaCie tech support. Anyway, I may try to exchange this for the new Yamaha CRW-F1, but I wish I didn't have to!

you could further test it by using discs that weren't burned with that particular burner. pop them in the drive and see if your cube reads 'em. this would help determine that it isn't your cube's drive (try burned cd-r and cd-rw discs not burned from the lacie).

well, as I've said, CDs burned on my previous burner mounted w/o problem. There's something distinctive about the disks i'm making here.

let's try one more little thing...

do you have any other macs, either at home or at work? if so, put those discs unreadable by the cube into the other macs. if these macs can't read 'em, then it's the burner. if they can, then it's the cube.

good luck!
