If you want a really small camera of excelent quality go for a small canon.
2.1 MP models to choose from:
Small form factor.
s100 - find this one on ebay used. Great bang for buck.
s110 - $272 pricewatch
s230 - new 3 megapixle version
slightly bigger, better lens. (pictured in post above)
s300
s330
If these are too small check out the S30 and S40. $400+ but worth every penny.
Try to stay away from models with regular batteries. Get something with Li-ion rechargable. The bigger the battery the better.
I find these cameras remarkable! I can't stress enough how easy they are to use and how high quality thier cases are. True plug and play in mac os x.

I have the 110 and have nothing but good things to say about it. Don't underestimate the pic quality of these small canons. And the form factor makes it useable. The build quality is solid too. You won't be disappointed.

Definitely one of the Canon digital Elphs. I have the s200 ($299 at a retailer in the nearest city to me) and it has blown me away in terms of feature vs. price.
I was hesitant to spend over $300 on another camera to replace the crappy HP Photosmart camera I had, but the purchase is worth every penny.
Just go to www.epinions.com to get the latest reviews by actual users as well as some of the current competitive prices.

Its not that bad really..
A models.
Beginer, inexpensive. Regular battery. I do not recomend these because they do not use rechargable batteries. Simple controls. But better than most cameras out there.
S230 - Small compact. Simple controls. Recomended. 3mp (elf)
S330 - Small compact. Slightly bigger. Recomended. 2mp (elf)
S30 - Small. Sized in between A and elfts. Full Controls same as G1, G2. 3mp much Bigger battery thatn elfs.
S40 Same as S30 but 4 MP.
If you want a small camera I really must recomend the s230. If you want something slightly bigger with full manual contros and a battery that will take 170 pics go for the S30.
Use pricewatch.com, prices vary big time.
Canon Canon Canon! Dam they make a nice product!

I belive the S330 has a better Zoom Comared to the S230, and I have full manual controls on my S330, Also have gotten 170 shots out of my S330 with the LCD off and no flash. don't underestimate the S330 it might be a little bigger but the value out weights the size.

The battery life is great. But it can in no way compare to the S30 or S40. They have much bigger bateries and can take over 300 pictures with the flash off and lcd off. I regularly take 170 3 mp pictures with the flash on and lcd on.
The S330 DOES NOT HAVE MANUAL CONTROLS. It has a lot of options, but not the full set. The S30, S40, and G1,G2,G3 have a full set of controls only.
Please check steves digicams in a previous link. They show the interface. The S330 is a great camera but it is soon to be replaced by a 3 MP version. I strongly sugest you avoid the S330 and go for the S230 or wait for its replacement if you want the nicer lens.
In short my pic for a new small camera, and the key word is small, is the Canon S230.
I have had experience with an A200, S100, S110, S330, S30 and a G2. My favorite of them all for a small camera with point and shoot controls is the S100/S200 series. If you dont mind a little extra bulk and want full controls the S30/S40 is a fine choice.
