So, what did they upate with 1.2.1 that wasn't in 1.2??? Hopefully not the output level, I think it could be louder anyway.

I have just updates my iPod as well, and I can't find the improvements. Don't know with the battery indicator, since my battery are almost empty.
But there are another, strange, thing I have noticed. When I scroll down in 'Artists', when I then come to the artists that starts with 'M', my list looks like this:
Manu Chao
Missy Elliot
Modjo
The Murmurs Ame...
Nelly
No Doubt
Does it automatically leave 'the' out when it sorts I have seen it some other places, and it's the same with 'Las'. guess it's not a bug, but I find it wired.

Just updated my original 5gigger - no visible difference at all so far, and I can confirm that the perceived volume level seems just the same to me, so I don't think the 'French fix' has happened in 1.2.1 (downloaded from apple.com) - my battery indicator was at full anyway... let's see how much battery life I get out of it now...

It does get installed in /Applications/Utilities/ but you aren't supposed to run it from there. The first time you run iTunes with your iPod connected, it automatically recognizes the new software and offers to update it for you.

Neither iTools nor my iPod have ever ignored the "The" in song titles. I have a long section of my Library list that starts "The..." Any ideas why mine doesn't sort like yours?

That is correct. This feature is only for artist or band names. Not for song titles or album titles. Kind of dumb, but hey... One thing at a time, I guess.

After installing 1.2.1, I charged my iPod till it said 'Charged', because I wanted to test the batterytime. I have it here besides me at work, it have been playing for 6 hours now, and the batteryindicator says 3/4 full. I must then say, that I have notised that the indicator have been empty for a few seconds, then turning to 3/4 again. The same thing happend one hour ago, this time it just went to 1/2 full.
I must admit, the update have made my iPod's batterytime last longer... atleast until now

Yes. It's called proper alphabetical sorting. Check out the library some time to see examples of this...

It's not a bug, It's just bad timing...

Normally, the battery meter is reading the iPod's power draw while the music is playing from the RAM. This is a low drain, and the battery shows more life.

If you just so happen to look at the meter when it is spinning the hard drive to load up the next 20 minutes of music, the battery is under a higher load. The indicator shows less remaining battery power. As soon as the drive stops spinning, indicator shows more battery remaining.

The battery meter displays how much is left by figuring the amount of charge that remains, divided by the load it is under at that exact point in time. It's much like the way a Powerbook's battery-time-remaining indicator displays much shorter life if you are watching a DVD at full brightness, as opposed to dimming the monitor and typing in TextEdit. It estimates how long it can keep going at that level of power consumption.

Well, yesterday I had my iPod playing till there were no more power on the battery. It played in 13 hours!!! And in that time I had it laying in the office, in my pocket going home on my bike and in my bag, when I was shopping. I'm still pretty impressed. But I have to say, I didn't change anything in those 13 hours. The volume was the same, I have had it playing all songs in shuffle and then put in on 'hold'.
But still....

How do you revert the software to the original factory-fresh version?

The 1.2.1 update is worse than 1.2 I had on mine 10 gb iPod. The battery indicator no longer says there is ever any battery life even after charging (and I know there is batt life because I play the iPod for hours). Not being able to note how full or empty the batteries are is really annoying!

Anyone else experience a similar problem?

How did it come to this? Goodbye PowerPC. | sensory output

greetings,

this weekend, i stupidly forced a restart on Mac OS X while a Windows iPod had the "do not disconnect" warning on. upon restart, iTunes failed to recognize the iPod although it continued to show up on the desktop. the iPod also stated that there were zero songs on it but that space was used up. i recovered the files using other utilities and then used the iPod 1.2.1 updater to restore it original condition.

it converted the Windows iPod into an HFS+ formatted iPod. not a big problem for me but i thought i'd share it.
