I'm on a budget and do not want to spend more than $149. Almost all of the printing I do is on photo glossy paper and NOT black and white text. I wouldn't mind having a refurbished printer as I can get a better model at the same price. I've been looking at all sorts. I even saw an epson thatfor that price that supported borderless printing, roll attachment, and smartmedia slot. I see alot of resolutions listed as 2880x720 the last number is the actual dpi right? so 720dpi. I would like 1400dpi. I'm using it in Mac OS X 10.2 Let me here your recommendations and why.

also I'm going to need a hub. Anything with 2 exta ports (2 more than the 2 on the powermac) would be great. Can somebody point me to a rock bottom priced hub?

Actually I've decided on the Epson C82. The Epson C80 got 4 1/2 stars from macworld. the C82 is slighly new with a higher resolution and 2 ppm faster, for anybody who's interested.
Now for a cheepo hub.

I just bought a C80 a couple of months ago, and for printing photos, I like the prints from my older Epson 1520 better (using photo quality and glossy Epson paper on both printers). The C80 colors are a little muddy. The C80 is using waterproof and lightfast inks and I am guessing this is why there's a difference. I would recommend one of the Epson Photo Stylus printers since you will be working mainly with color printouts on glossy paper, unless very long term archival capabilities is important to you. There was a thread a couple of weeks ago here on the peripherals forum on the C80 that you may want to read.

The macworld review noted that the C80 series will print photos best on Semi-Gloss. Quite a bit better than photo gloss. on semi gloss it is supposed to be better than a photoseries on photogloss. Althoug they are too different types of paper. I also here there are different types of cartridges that you can use (less lasting) but better for photogloss.
Macworld Also notes that this is one of the best black razor sharp inkjets they have seen in a long time and even surpasses the HP in text quality. Most Epsons are known to not do well with just plain text. I think that adds to me wanting this model.
Most of the stuff I print out is simple comps, or project covers. Anything that goes for magazine layouts or series DTP will be taken and printed dye sub anyway.
Here is the c80 review:

Thanks for the link to the Macworld review. I had probably read it before, but didn't pick up (or remember) the remark about printing on matte or semigloss paper. I'll give it a try. I hope they do offer different or improved inks to improve color on other papers. The C80 does print text much faster than my other Epson, and the text is sharper. I didn't buy the printer because I needed one, but I just bought a 17" iMac and wanted to use the Apple/EPSON $100 rebate thats currently in affect.
