OK, I'm using a PalmIII with a Palm USBConnect with 10.2 I could Sync maybe six times, now… nothing…
tried unplugging/replugging, starting and stopping HotSync Manager…
nothing works.
no, i'm not re-installing Palm Desktop every morning…
Any fixes (other than buy a new PDA)

The fault lies somwhere in the USB... That software is a big POS. What a bad product. I wasted 17 bucks on it.
What I use is a Stealth Serial port made by Gee4.com and a mac to pc serial adapter. Works every time, although slow.

The Stleath… is that the one that replaces your modem? I need my modem! noooooo…
anyway, I'm thinking that when the system sleeps, it kills hotsync (as sleep also powers down USB) so… what I'm thinking is, if I hotsync, then unplug the usb adapter, then sleep, the next time I wake, plug in, sync it will work. maybe…
:crosses fingers:
I'll let you know…

The problem is not your HotSync software, but the fact you are trying to use a piece of hardware which requires a serial port on a computer that does not have one. You need to find a good adaptor such as the KeySpan PDA adaptor that I use. I'm afraid that this will create Windows-like driver issues, but the only other solution is to buy a PDA that is directly compatible with your Mac.
Sorry.

Keyspan's USB PDA Adapter (serial to USB) has worked wonders for me, especially now that they've released new OS X drivers. Give it a try. It's well worth its price, even though it's twice as much as the Palm USB adapter.
Unlike the Palm adapter, you can use the Keyspan adapter for many other devices, e.g. to hook up a GPS receivers or to configure routers via a serial port.

so far, my disable hotsync and disconnect cable method seems to be working. so i'll try to work like that.
I can't really afford to go and buy another adapter right now and I don't have any other serial devices so…
thanks for your advice and stuff (and for reading my semi-rant )

Yes. But so do macs! As long as they are not going through a USB to serial converter. The new cradles work great, but of course you need a new palm. Quite frankly the Vx rocks, and there are no suitable replacements in the 100$ price range.
I find the Stealth Serial port 100% operational. Syncs all the time every time. If you can ditch your modem, get one of these suckers. I upgraded the os yesterday (10 min of comunication!) with no problem. Oh, and iSync is the COOLEST thing ever. The adress book is now usefull! Yay.

so far my method is working 100% (un-check the 'Enable HotSync software at system startup' box, and keep your USBConnect thing unplugged until you need it. Then, all you have to do when you want to sync is: 1. Plug in. 2. Enable. 3. Sync. 4. Disable. 5. Un-plug.)
and I won some money today, so I may be placing a bid on a newton
