Hi all.

I picked up an iPod remote for my original 5GB iPod and to my dismay, it doesn't work.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the headphone jack has a gap in it that broke off some months ago. But it doesn't seem like this would be the problem, for it was just plastic and nothing else.

What should I do? These batch of iPod's came with a mere 90-Day warrenty, so would going to Apple be wise? Should I consider picking up a new one (if the repair costs are too high)?

HELP!

Hi THE DUDE,

when I first used my remote on my 10 Gig iPod it wouldn't work. I had to force (I mean gentle force! Don't break it!)it in the jack until there was a clicking noise. From there on it worked just fine! Maybe it works for you too!

Enjoy the remote working!

the dude, all original ipods'warranty have extended to one year, so you might want to contact apple for a replacement.

go to this address and enter your ipod' serial number there, yours should still under warranty.

rather than brute force, my trick is to twist it as you push it in; almost like you would be screwing it in.

it seems very common that people initially don't think the remote works. it must be seated all the way in.

Thanks for all the replies, when I get home I'll make a few calls and such.

About the link, it won't go through. After a little exploring of Apple's support pages, the link that they have is http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/ and even that won't go through.

Very odd indeed...

the ipod service page has been down for almost five days now, i don't know what is going on with them. My colleague sent her ipod last week for repair and still has yet to receive a replacement. I guess a lot of people have sent in their ipods, perhaps?

The page appears to be up now, but nowhere do I see any fields to enter a serial and gain warranty information. Also, I can't seem to find any place to enter or file a claim for repairs.

Any ideas?

just follow the previous link that i gave you, you have to have an apple id beforehand, after you enter your apple id and password, it will lead you to a product service page where you will enter your product serial number, purchase date...etc.

Well, if you say so. But when I entered my Apple ID it said that it didn't have any information on me or something along those lines.

Perhaps I shouldn't use my ADC account for that? Should I make yet another account?

Hey thanks! I just bought mine from the "save now" section (refurb) Although I've never had any problems buying refurbished stuff (i've definatley saved hundreds) I always worry. However, I guess that since everything is inspected individually, it would be less likely to be broke. Anyway, good tip, and thanks.
