when i plug my iPod into my iBook, iTunes does not automatically sync up the device. it powers it, but says "ok to disconnect."

if i plug/unplug the cable a few times, it will usually get recongnized...and then start the update.

any tips? is the firewire like the remote cord...needs to be seated perfectly? or is there a software piece i'm missing? i never even looked at the iPod software since i had iTunes3 already on my iBook.

Sometimes it just takes a few seconds. All you need to do is plug in the iPod and iTunes will eventually take care of the rest if you're patient. iTunes *is* the iPod software.

Also, when you plug in the iPod, open iTunes, select the iPod in the Source list, and click the little iPod icon in the lower right to open its prefs. Make sure it's set to automatically launch iTunes and update.
