Anyone have this problem? The iPod display appears to be burnt when I turn it on...eventually it goes back to normal....
And another thing....the right earphone on the new remote makes a rattling noise occasionally..never noticed that with the original iPod earphones.
If I blow into the right earphone it rattles...the old ones don't do that.

are you charging your ipod through your computer's firewire port? if that is the case, yes, it feels like burnt. Some people suggest that unmount your ipod from your desktop, and your ipod will not get hot and looks burnt.

And for that noise, i think it is related to the remote, because that is the exact same thing happens to my ipod's remote too! That is why i feel the ipod's remote will not last long...

damnit i just ordered one today!

have you tried pluging in the head phones directly into the ipod to see if they work? or is the remote and the head phones one unit?

also what type of rattleing is it? like the actual inside driver of the headphone something is loose?

hopfully mine will be okay

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!

The remote works great...and when it is working the sound is fine...I just noticed on certain songs, the right earphone makes a crappy, rattling sort of noise and when I blow into the right earphone, it rattles....
It is a new remote, it didn't come with the iPod (an original 5 gigger).

I only noticed this "burnt" appearance of the display today...I've had the iPod since May. I usually charge it with the wall plug, but the last time I did it, I did it with the computer firewire port. It wasn't the least bit hot though, it had been sitting unused for 2 days when I turned it on and the display looked like ass.
It went back and forth between "burnt" and normal and then settled on normal.
I do usually leave it in the Extreme Mac case when I charge it...maybe I shouldn't do that....(?)

according to the apple care document, you should not leave your ipod in a case while charging.

not every ipod's remote has problem, my colleague's remote does not. Mine purchased separately too! I don't even bother to return it because the noise problem only happens occasionally when i move around while carrying my ipod on a belt clip.
