I am thinking of buying a Western Digital 7200 RPM 120 gig hard drive from Costco ($130). This is an IDE drive and I am debating with myself wether I should install the drive inside my G4 or put the drive inside a firewire housing. It would be faster inside my G4 but more portable as a firewire drive. Would anybody out there like to provide me with some constructive suggestions?

you've narrowed it down right there--external is more portable, internal not so.

me, I'd go with external, just for portability for file transfer among other Macs and for the option to take backups off-site or, in the event your powermac doesn't start, you could boot another mac from that drive (provided you have a viable OS installed).

Do you have a suggestion for a firewire housing? Brand, price, etc.

OWC has some good cases that are cheap and have Oxford 911 chipset, the fastes and bestest firewire cases around,

I also debated getting an internal and exteral drive and I went with the internal because I already have a FW CDR and I don't need the portabilty, so just way your options, do you really need portability or is this going to be taking up tons of room on my all ready cluttered desk

I GOT WASTED WITH PHIL SHERRY!!!
