What OS are you using? I had a similar problem under 10.1 but this is not an issue under 10.2.1 (for me at least...). I found that the best fix was simply to reinstall the Palm Desktop 4.0 software. It worked every time.....

Hope this helps.

Ok guys, this whole Sync, PalmDesktop thing is killing me
Here I go...
I unistalled the PalmDesktop app
I re-installed it
I tried to open my user data file and nothing happened again.
Now I trashed my palm folder under documents
I deleted the PDA from the iSync, and then re-created it...
I turned the isync of under conduit settings
sync'd again
now everything went fine, my user data file opens fine, and shows all my backup entries from my memo pad, address book, etc...
Then I turned isync on again under conduit settings...
and boom, my user data file doesn't work anymore...
I took a look under the hot sync log and I found this:
Memo Pad could not open the Palm Desktop file “User Data” because another application is using it. Try closing any open dialog boxes in Palm Desktop or Instant Palm Desktop.
Memo Pad synchronization failed
“Memo Pad” failed (error = #4100)
WTF I supposed to do?
Think Diferente!
