Can anyone direct me to a good source or sources for information on choosing a CD or DVD burner?

Also, I welcome any advice anyone's got. I need to get a burner that I can use with OS X and my wife can use with Windows 2000. We've both got laptops without FireWire, so our plan is to get a PCMCIA/CardBus-to-FireWire adapter (perhaps the OrangeMicro) and a FireWire external drive. I'd been planning on CD/RW but then someone suggested that in the long run it'll be cheaper to go the DVD route because of how much data each disc holds. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for whatever help you can give.

Don't know about a source but I got the EZ Quest CD RW and I love it! EZ Quest has a good rating by Macworld and has been consistently supported under OS X. It also looks cool.
iFinished therefore iBook!
