Epson has FINALLY offered an OS X driver for the EPL-5700i Laser printer. Looks like they posted it on 10.22.02. I have tried it with 10.2.1 and it works fine. Here it is:

This is by far the best OS X related news in recent weeks. I can't believe that I just printed to my good old EPL-5700i from Mac OS X. I had completely given up hope on Epson ever releasing an OS X driver for this printer. I am utterly, truly and completely amazed, blown away and flabbergasted. This driver is also significantly better than the OS 9 driver, which might in part be due to OS X's Print Center.

I wish I knew who was responsible for this, so I could send them flowers.

Thank you Epson!

Epson has to be one of the BEST company's around today. They support old and new printers alike.

And to think how inexpensive they are. I have a Kodak dye-sub at work that was nearly $10,000 when we bought it. No drivers and no plans.

Epson makes great scanners too, and also are supporting them (new and old). Companies like Umax on the other hand have no intention of writing OS X drivers for their older (and nearly new) scanners. I tired to download an OS 9 driver and found that I have to pay to the the driver on CD. No free download available.

Keep up the good work Epson!

The OS X driver definitely works for me. But for some reason it has become very slow. The EPL-5700i now take about one minute to print one page. That's 20 minutes for a 20 page document! I usually disconnect the printer from my iBook since I run around a lot. Could it be that disconnecting and re-connecting the laser somehow confuses the driver and slows it down?

Even though I can print with my EPL-5700i now, I think I will still have to upgrade to a high-end HP network laser in the long run.
