I have an external fw Pioneer dvr-104, and I'm trying to mount it in my Beige G3, because my old CD Rom drive died. The Pioneer works find in the external firewire case, but when I attach it to the ide bus, where the old CD Rom was installed, it's really flaky. It hangs on scan, sometimes, sometimes it does not. Sometimes disks that are mounted suddenly aren't, and worst of all - DVD coasters. I get a timeout 0x08, 0x01 error.
Any ideas?
I've disabled sleep on my machine.
I'm running OS X 10.1.5, and the machine has 640 megs of RAM, a 32 meg Rage 128, a Maxtor firewire card, and 120 gig Western Digital HD, and an XLR8 500MHz G4 upgrade.
What would be cool would be any information on what the heck the five jumper pairs are for. THere's no markings or documentation on this drive for the jumpers. I assume I've got it set for Master. But that could be wrong - basically, set up the same as it is in the firewire case.
